The National Park of Exmoor has a long and dramatic coastline fronting the Bristol Channel. Tall cliffs, craggy coasts and bracken covered moorland have been famous for hundreds of years. We walk in the steps of authors like George Elliot (Mary Ann Evans), Charles Kingsley, Beatrix Potter, Henry Williamson and will be in Lorna Doone country throughout. These artists also included Percy Shelley, his wife Mary and Lord Byron. Quickly we will be in the midst of folklore, legend, wild tales and be inspired, as they were, by the rough natural landscapes and pretty villages, often said to reflect the European tourists impression of Switzerland. This wild and glaciated landscape, torn by tumultuous, fast-flowing rivers, has been partly civilised by the beautiful historic villages of Lynmouth and Lynton which provide all a weary traveller needs and much besides. Tea shops and Art Galleries abound! The villages are only 500ft/150m apart but that distance is vertical! So, when it is operating, we will see the water powered cable car. Built in 1888, to carry people up to the level of Lynton and a coastal walk onwards to The Valley of the Rocks, a most famous Victorian tourist spectacle. Here, granite, among the hardest of rocks, was torn by ice and shredded. The Valley is abruptly ended by the entirely natural but strangely man made looking Castle Rock with its mysterious White Lady.

I lead walking parties over much of the globe and yet it is here that I have made my home. I guide this area, through every season of the year, and have the knowledge and stories that only someone with my "time on the ground" could possibly have. Hot summer days and wild winter snows all shape and bless this landscape and I've walked in all of them. I love to get under the topography and explain the whys and wherefores of the underlying shapes, how the land impacted us and how we foolishly thought we had tamed it until the fateful night of 15/16 Aug 1952. Heartwarming stories of human and equine challenge when none would give up in the pursuit of saving fellow human lives despite the raw sacrifices needed. I will use every trick in the storyteller's craft to entertain and inform you, teaching without teaching, completing your journey!

Donde estarás

We will be on The North Devon Coast around the picturesque villages of Lynton and Lynmouth and the very famous Valley of the Rocks, all major stops on the now long forgotten Victorian tourist trail. When you consider that Venice, Nice and Vienna were also on this trail it gives some idea of the area's worth and even the motivation to build a steam railway all the way from London. I know many good trails which show the area at its brilliant best!

Davy is a true gentleman and a scholar. My wife and I were both very well looked after. We'd gladly tackle any trail with Davy at the helm.

I sent my parents on a walk with David. They absolutely loved it. Despite patchy weather they said it was fun and informative. Would highly recommend. David was very accommodating and really went out of his way to help out.
