This experience will take you back to the ancient art of cheese- making in Sardinia. No special machines here... everything is done by hand!
Sheep farming in Sardinia dates back to the Nuragic civilization. Traditional shepherds have preserved and continued their methods, though it is not common to find a local willing to share this experience.
Marco believes in educating guests on a lost art in the modern world.
Guests will gather around the fire in the traditional fireplace and learn about the milking process of sheep and goats while the milk heats to a perfect temperature. Marco will share his experience as a shepherd and farmer. Once the milk starts to solidify, the main work begins. Guests will observe as the sweet, warm milk changes into Pecorino and Ricotta. Guests are encouraged to ask questions and take pictures throughout the process. Guests are also welcome to help press the cheese into molds and get involved in the process when they would like to.
Everyone will get a taste of the hot and fresh product... including our onlooking cats and dogs waiting for a treat!

Guests will also get to take home a sample of their labor.
Light refreshments will be available.

I am Marco, a traditional Sardinian shepherd that has learned from the best..an older traditional shepherd! With a passion for my roots, nature, and animals, I decided to leave my life in the town for a more natural and self-sustaining way of life. Over 15 years ago, I started mostly as a shepherd- herding and milking 200 sheep every day. I now have other animals such as pigs, goats, and chickens. In addition, I grow organic fruits and vegetables, make wine, cheese, oil, jams, and more.
I love my life as a Sardinian farmer and I'm truly proud and gratified with what I have created for myself. My wife and I are happy to share this experience of special respect for these animals and land that provide us so much, as well as teach curious travelers about this lifestyle, which is so different than the fast-paced world, yet so natural.

We had such a lovely time with Marcos - it was the perfect break in our road trip driving south to north. Marcos was so friendly and open and interesting! Our kids (8 and 12) also really enjoyed the whole experience- and we loved the ricotta we got to take with us! Highly recommended.

The experience at Marco's & Sapphires farm was definitely one of a kind! It's this peaceful place surrounded by nature, yet easy to reach with every car. The farm itself is just magical. One can tell that it was built by the passion of Marco. The cheese making was super interesting. Marco shows how to do this in the old traditional way by hand, which one barely gets to see anymore nowadays! It's really soothing to watch the goat milk turn into cheese and ricotta. After, they provided selfmade, delicious snacks and we got the time to ask Marco all about this lifestyle, the culture of Sardegna etc. In the end we even got to take some of the ricotta home (we ate it with pasta - tasty!). All in all, we had a wonderful time. Anyone who gets the chance should go see Marco and Sapphire - they're truly inspiring and kind people.
