This is an amazing opportunity to experience Japanese cooking in a relaxed, family environment. You will learn to make a 6 course meal with sushi and vegetarian tempura (4 kinds of vegetables) from scratch, from slicing the fish, preparing the rice, and putting them together that looks beautiful and tastes delicious. Side dishes include edamame, home-made pickles, miso soup etc. Once we have prepared everything, we set the table and sit down to enjoy the food while having a friendly chat. Finally, at the tea ceremony, we will drink matcha with a Japanese sweet. The philosophy behind is to slow down and appreciate smaller things in life. By the end, you will learn to make two of the most popular Japanese dishes, tempura and sushi, for your friends and family back home; but also have a much deeper knowledge of Japanese life. There is no better way to learn about a culture than cook and eat with a local family for a few hours. This activity will suit anyone interested in Japanese cooking in a more relaxed family home environment, away from a corporate feel of restaurants. Those interested in Japanese family life will also enjoy, as you will visit a family home and learn about family life. We are not a typical family as we are bilinguals (English & Japanese), but you get the feel of how families cook, eat, and live in Japan.
I have been teaching cooking at my house for three years. I love cooking and meeting new people. I also run a BnB at my house so sometimes I cook with my guests and they love what we make together, so I have decided to open our house to other food lovers too. I lived in England for two years, I made lots friends through food and cooking, so I believe it's the best way to make new friends and teach each other our own culture. So please come to our house and learn how to make Japanese food (sushi and tempura) and experience tea ceremony inside a Japanese family home, and see what Japanese family home looks like.
Together we'll prepare and enjoy a 6 course meal.
For desert we will make matcha tea and eat Japanese sweet.

Our house is larger than a typical house in Japan (200 sq. metres or 21,00 sq. feet). From the outside it looks very western, but inside we have two Japanese tatami rooms (for tea ceremony and guests), also our small garden has more a Japanese look. The kitchen is modern and electric. Our house runs on electricity only and solar energy. Annually we produce more energy than consume to make this house green.
