Ivan Meštrović Gallery , is an art museum in Split, Croatia dedicated to the work of the 20th-century sculptor, Ivan Meštrović. The gallery preserves and presents to the public the most significant works of Meštrović, and is in itself an art monument. The permanent collection includes works of sculpture, drawings, design, furniture and architecture. Holdings include original plaster models by the artist, as well as finished works in bronze, marble and wood. The gallery building and grounds were based on original plans by Meštrović himself, and included living and working areas, as well as exhibition spaces. Not far from the gallery lies Kaštelet-Crikvine, a restored chapel that houses a set of wooden wall panels carved by Ivan Meštrović

The ethnographic museum of Split is housed in a building that itself already is of exceptional cultural and historical architectural significance. Fancy yourself walking trough a room dating from the 4th century. The actual former bedroom of the Emperor Diocletian himself? The most intimate part of the Palace? Yes? I thought so... Located next to the Peristyle - the central square of the Palace - the museum presents an extremely valuable ethnographic collection portraying the old ways of life in Split, the islanders and farmers of the Dalmatian hinterland and more. The museum's permanent collection displays regional costumes, jewelery, pottery, knitting, and other various handmade artifacts.

THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINT DOMNIUS is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date. Definitely recommend to climb up until the belfry and enjoy in spectacular view, also you must see stunning DIOCLETIANS PALACE which is an ancient palace built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, that today forms about half the old town of Split, Croatia. While it is referred to as a "palace" because of its intended use as the retirement residence of Diocletian, the term can be misleading as the structure is massive and more resembles a large fortress: about half of it was for Diocletian's personal use, and the rest housed the military garrison. Today the remains of the palace are part of the historic core of Split, which, in 1979 were listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Sites.

Forest park Marjan in Split is covered in a dense Mediterranean pine forest and completely surrounded by the city and the sea making it a unique sight. It is a favourite weekend excursion destinations of citizens and a recreational center. It is also the setting for numerous beaches and jogging trails as well as tennis courts. On northern part of forest (described above) please make sure to follow the main path. Southern part of forest is quite secluded and poorly visited. On southern part I only recommend to visit coffee bar "Vidilica" from where you can see a spectacular view on entire city Split.

The Mlinice Pantan are situated between Split and Trogir and represent the unique connection between nature and history. The renovated renaissance mlinice (little mills) are an important example of industrial architecture. The Mlinice rely on more than 12 little sources that form a lake, and all of which overflow into a wider sea laguna. Pantan is the habitat of many fish and bird species and autochthonous plants. The best season for swamp bird watching is during autumn, because Pantan is an important migration location. This ichthyologic- ornithological reserve today is a real tourist attraction, and there is also a restaurant of local and international specialities and a supreme quality wine list. Their food is fresh, seasonal and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed in meal surrounded by beautiful landscape and I recommend it.

Dubrovnik- interesting facts: • Included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. • Also known as „Pearl of the Adriatic“, it is one of the most prominent tourist destionations on Mediterranean. • In the Middle Ages it beacame the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice. • There are so many attractions including: walking on the Old City Walls that encircle the entire town, the Franciscan Monastery with its library and pharmacy, the cultural history museum Rectors Palace, the Pile Gate, many more churches and monasteries, 15th century Bell Tower, and the limestone paved main street Stradun with its baroque shops and homes built after the 1667 earthquake. Oh and of course „Game of Thrones“ filming locations as King’s Landing (imaginary town by series synopsis).

Town Omiš- in the Middle Ages, during the 12th and 13th centuries, the town was ruled by the Kačić princes, who were at the head of the Omiš pirates. Omiš was then mentioned under the Italian name Almissa. Omiš pirates carried out attacks on papal galleys and merchant ships of mighty Venice, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Split ... All these were reasons for frequent wars and the conclusion of agreements, which often ended in paying tribute to Omiš for peaceful navigation. The pirate history is vividly presented by the city fortresses Mirabella (Peovica) and Fortica (Starigrad). Fortica was, in fact, primarily used as a lookout (it had a view on the entire Brač sea channel) and whatever the direction the enemies approached from, the watch guards would be able to spot them early enough to warn the inhabitants of Omiš of danger. This is why precisely the Fortica fortress is said to be one of the most important reasons for the town of Omiš remaining unconquered throughout its entire history. There is also a long tradition regarding Festival of dalmatian klapas. Omiš has been the anchorage of original klapa songs for 47 years.

The National Park Plitvice lakes is the oldest and largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. The park is situated in the mountainous region of Croatia, between Mala kapela mountain range in the west and northwest and the Lička Plješivica mountain range to the southeast. The park is primarily covered in forest vegetation with smaller areas under grasslands. The most attractive part of the park- the lakes cover just under 1% of the total park area. The lake system is comprised of 16 named and several smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one into the next. Due to the geological substrate and characteristic hydrogeological conditions, the lake system has been divided into Upper and Lower Lakes. The 12 lakes forming the Upper lakes are: Prošćansko jezero, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Batinovac, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Vir, Galovac, Milino jezero, Gradinsko jezero, Burgeti and Kozjak. These lakes were formed on impermeable dolomite rock, and are larger, with more indented and gentler shores than the Lower Lakes. The Lower Lakes, consisting of the lakes Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluđerovac and Novakovića Brod, were formed in permeable limestone substrate, cut into a deep canyon with steep cliffs. The lakes end in the impressive waterfalls Sastavci, with the Korana River springing under the base of the falls.

The Kliss Fortress is a medival fortress situated above a village bearing the same name, near Split, Croatia. From its origin as a small stronghold built by the ancient Illyrian tribe Dalmatae, becoming a royal castle that was the seat of many Croatian kings to its final development as a large fortress during the Ottoman wars in Europe. Although crucial to Split's history, the fortress of Klis was little more than a crumbling outpost until Game of Thrones happened. In season four, released in 2014, Klis fortress was transformed into Meereen, the largest of three great Slaver Cities. It was the best thing to happen to Klis since the Croatian duke Mislav made it the seat of his duchy in the middle of the 9th century.

Island Vis is the island that has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It was a place of ancient Greek settlement and the ancient settlement Issa dates from that time. One of the most interesting items is a copy of the bronze head of Artemis (Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, wild animals, the Moon…). The statue dates back from the 4th century BC and is one of the most important Greek bronze monuments in Croatia. The island is also famous for the „Illuminating miracle“ so due to the Blue Cave, Vis has a special tourist value. Around noon for the calm sea, the sun's rays penetrate through the underwater opening into the Blue Cave, are reflected from the white bottom and illuminate the cave with blue and objects in the water with silver light.

Island Hvar – some facts: • In July 2004. an international research team found traces of dinosaurus that lived 90 million years ago on Hvar. Island Korčula- is one of the best-preserved medieval Mediterranean towns, renowned for its urban architecture and known as „small Dubrovnik“. I recommend to see: St Mark's Cathedral And Bishop’s Treasury, Korčula Town Museum, Interpretation Centre Marco Polo (world explorer, also the most famous man from the island) and sword dance Moreška. Back in time, the town of Korčula was influenced by European cultural trends so Moreška has been performed since 17th century on July 29th (St. Theodore's Day) and weekly during the summer tourist season. Only males from the town's families learn to clash 2 swords in the dance drama- 7 battles are fought to free the Turkish king's Bula (a female) who was abducted by the Moorish king.

SINJSKA ALKA is held in the Croatian town of Sinj every first Sunday in August since 1715. It commemorates a Croatian–Venetian victory in the Ottoman–Venetian war on August 14, 1715 in which the local population of around 700 Croats in cooperation with a smaller number of Venetians managed to defend Sinj against 60,000 Ottoman soldiers. Immediately after the magnificent and glorious victory the people of the Cetina region founded Sinjska alka- a competition in which horsemen riding at full gallop aim their lances at a hanging metal ring (alka) and points are awarded according to the part of the ring they are able to pierce. The game has become an eternal memory of the heroism of the ancestors and the bearer of national pride. In 2010, the Alka was inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.

SAINT DOMNIUS DAY (SUDAMJA) is the biggest local holiday in Split celebrated for centuries on May 7th in honor of the protector of the city. The city's founder- Emperor Diocletian executed Christian bishop Domnius in 304 AD. In memory of that event; former Diocletian's mausoleum is today a cathedral dedicated to Domnius. Sudamja is a religious holiday and a city's birthday with number of festivities ranging from entertainment, to art, to religious. For years, Sudamja is famous for International Rowing Regatta Sveti Duje. In city's harbour right in front of the main promenade enjoy in a special race of rowing legends from Split, Oxford and Cambridge. Always popular is Sudamja Fair- one of the oldest traditions connected with this holiday. Local custom says that you should take home anything made of wood, at least a spoon. And trust me, you will have plenty of choices on stalls lined up at Riva. As usual, central event will be procession on the big day, May 7th, starting at 10 am. It goes from the cathedral at Peristil, through the Palace's Eastern Gate, passing through market to Riva, across the promenade to its western end where Holy Mass will be celebrated. Procession follows a silver bust with the Saint's reliquaries. According to tradition, bust is followed by city, county and state officials, members of parishes, and at the end thousands of Split citizens will walk to honour their Patron Saint. After the mass and religious part; holiday afternoon brings some lighter content like big public tombola at Riva, charity concert, folklore ensembles, Food& Drink Festival and big firework. Christianity marked most of Split history, and Diocletian Palace went through complete religious makeover in early and later Middle Ages, when dozens of small and bigger churches were built or converted from Roman temples. Excellent exhibition will give you full insight into that part of local heritage. Visit it in Diocletian Gallery in Split City Museum.

SPLIT SUMMER (SPLITSKO LJETO) is a music/theater festival that takes place from mid-July to mid-August. The festival encapsulates drama theater, opera, ballet and various concerts. It is the largest and oldest festival of its kind in Croatia alongside the Dubrovnik Summer Games festival. The Festival was founded and managed by the city of Split. The first edition of the Split Summer Festival took place in 1954. It was opened by a renowned croatian opera called ‘’Ero s onoga svijeta’’ by the author Jakov Gotovac. It has long been considered one of the most successful Slavic comic operas and it has hardly ever left the repertoire of all Croatian national houses. The spectacular ballet finale of the opera is a kind of ode to the folk way of life in which music imbued with the ethnos of the Dalmatian hinterland comes to the fore. Over the years Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘’Aida’’ has become the Festival’s trademark. This inspired story of ancient Egypt, mystical rites and forbidden passions abounds with beautiful arias, powerful choirs, ballet scenes and exciting orchestral music. The opera takes place at the Peristyle of the Diocletian Palace and uses an authentic Sphinx from the era of Thutmose the Third. Split Summer Festival takes place in an open historically significant location such as: the Peristyle, basements of the Palace, Prokurative, Meštrović Gallery, Crikvine-Kaštelac, Carrarina’s Meadow, Sutipan etc. A regional journal called Slobodna Dalmacija awards an award called Judita. Judita is awarded to the best musical and drama act of the ongoing Festival and represents a highly esteemed honor. In addition to the standard program of the Split Summer Festival, there are numerous exhibits.
