History of the Vondelpark (Lili)
Vondelpark history
This wrought iron gate forms the main entrance to the Vondelpark. It was designed for the World Fair in 1883 international colonial fair, to give more allure to the park entrance.
The lady in the middle on the freestone pedestal is the Amsterdam city virgin. In her one hand she holds a shield with the weapon of the city and with the other hand she invited to come in. Her head is adoorned with a royal crown. The eroded original of soft sandstone was replaced in 2010 with a more sustainable copy of Bentheimer sandstone. The restored original is now standing since 2014 at the Koenenkade next to the Amsterdam wood.

Blue Teahouse, built from steel, concrete and glass. It is supposed to be the design of Herman Baanders of Amsterdam School of architecture. Previously another tea house was at this place, designed in 1928 in chalet style also by Baanders. It burnt down in 1936.

Originally this was a water pomping station. In 1903 it became redundant due to the damping of the Overtoom and the Kattensloot streets. The building was then rebuilt into a house of the park caretaker.

Norbert Eliasbridge. Steady wrought iron bridge next to the rosaruim. It was rebuilt in 1976.
Just like the Brandbrug, this bridge was built as part of the extension of the park in 1876-1877.

Diaconessenbrug: steady wrought iron bridge at the entrance to the Vondelpark next to Emmalaan. Previously the bridge was called Willemsbrug, like the villa area Willemspark. As of 2017 the bridge is officially called Diaconessenbrug, as a reference to the Lutheran Diaconnesses House, the now disappeared hospital at the beginning of the Koninginneweg. In the spaces between the balusters letters W are engraved.

Vondelpark is good to walk around, do sports, jog, have a picnic, makena photoshoot at any time of the year but it is most gorgeous in spring, summer and autumn.
