Some of our Valencia favourite places to go
La Otra Parte is right around the corner from the apartment. It has a lovely ambience, with a nice relaxed and alternative vibe. To be clear, this is not a typical ‘Spanish’ place, if you want typical Valencian food, this is not the place to go. However, if you want delicious and different fusion dishes, this is the perfect place! Flamenco nights on Thursdays. Relaxed and unpretentious nice little place. 2 blocks away from the apartment.

This local cafe is just blocks away from the apartment heading way from the beach towards el Mercado del Cabanyal. It is right in front of it and all the locals go there to have their "Almuerzo" which is brunch around 10-11am. We suggest you try the bocatas like Chivito (pork), Navarra (has warm chorizo or chistorra inside), Queso (has goat cheese and pork) or some of their tapas. The price is very inexpensive. you can have a 1/2 bocata with orange juice and coffee for 3.80 Euros! This is great for brunch or lunch.

This is a great local cafe / restaurant / bar. The decor is clean and fisherman looking. We recommend the Coca con Titaina, a valencian pizza base with a tomato spread on top mixed with other vegetables. It is quite tasty... and of course a glass of wine to go with it.

Casa Montana is the first bodega in Valencia and it is located in our barrio. There are many tapas to try including the famous anchoas de Santona with a good glass of Spanish wine. Make sure you book, but if it is a spur of the moment then put your name down to seat you at the bar. You can order a drink and drink it outside while you wait.

A little further down the road, there is a typical Spanish bodega. This place is very well known in Valencia for Almuerzo. All the locals come here due to the massive sandwiches for cheap prices. When I say massive, I mean massive. roughly about arm’s length. They don’t say they serve the world’s biggest bocatas in the world for nothing. It is very busy and noisy but you won't be disappointed with the huge bocatas.

When you leave a tip they will ring a bell or bucket and call out "Bote!", you will be the star for a brief moment.
This place is an alternative, chic spot to enjoy a few drinks with good company. Not only are the drinks inexpensive but with the narrow structure of the locale, it gives you an almost narnia-like sensation taking you back in time as the eclectic and chaotic decor surrounds you. If the manequin dressed as a girl with the roller skates hanging around his neck doesn’t give you a taste of the vibes coming out of this place, I don’t know what will. The owners are lovely and always happy to have a chat and serve you their special concoctions. The atmosphere is very relaxed but gets busy at night. You can order a charcuterie spread and cheese but they excel in their cocktails which are quite reasonably priced for Ruzafa. We recommend the Agua de Valencia, Gin Tonics and Mojitos. They also continously create different mixes so listen up for something that may catch your attention.

This is a new place that just opened around the beach area. It is basic but large, it has live music every now and then, it is very chilled. During summer you can have a quiet drink as it is covered and very airy. The decor is interesting as it is an old warehouse with very rough finishing. Good for a quiet drink. Closes at midnight.

I you want to see a nice view of the Rio del Turia, go to the bar on the last floor of Hotel Barcelo. It is nice when the lights in the park are on. you can see the Palau de la Reina Sofia from this point but not the Hemisferic or the Museum of arts and sciences.

This is the brand new kid on the block. It has recently opened in May 2016 and it is full of people. There is a restaurant with Spanish and Japanese menu. The bar is open all day with a swimming pool overlooking the beach. there are different ambiances to chill out or to dance if you want to. the prices are a bit more expensive than other places. Beware that to use the swimming pool you will be charged, check at reception for prices but last time I checked they did not allow kids to enter the pool :(

This is a cafe off to one of the streets from Plaza de la Virgen. It is quite quaint and fascinating to see. The drinks are pretty good and the atmosphere is quiet to have a nice chat and chill down from your walk around the city.

Arts & Culture

This is a nice little museum and art gallery with a good selection of the local Valencian artist Joaquin Sorolla. After that, you can head over to Torres de Serrano which is just over the bridge.

This is the round looking building in the complex of the city of Arts and Sciences. It has an IMAX theatre inside which is the largest in Spain. Check out their website for films that they are showing when you visit Valencia. Tip: If you are around the area at night and the Hemisferic is lit up... then make sure to take a picture from one of the sides with the building on the background... it looks like a giant eye with the reflection on the water.

Litearlly the cornerstone of Valencia, this is where the Romans created the first road intersection. You can see the actual walls buried underground. A small but interesting place to visit to learn more about the ancient beginnings.

This is an old hydraulic pump factory which is now turned into an art center. The tour of this iconic modernistic building is quite interesting and takes you back to its beginnings, lots of cool stories about the factory.

This is one of the most famous "Civil" gothis buildings in Europe. During the boom of the silk times in Valencia, this was the place where everything happened. The building architecture is even more attractive on the inside.

This is part of the urban culture of Valencia, it is a small hole in a wall that someone converted into a nice street art. Worth seeing it.
