when it rains, take the kids into downtown Bradenton (25 minutes East) to see the Manatees close-up. They'll be able to run at reckless abandon through the extensive displays of Florida history. They can also go to the planetarium there.

a great informational place about the Manatee, the history, a live demo of the Florida Manatee, in and out in 90 minutes easily. So great for everyone even small children.
