This is an absolutely unique piece of engineering, which links the two canals running across the Scottish central belt. There is a visitor centre which shows how this huge infrastructure project was developed and from here you can take a trip on the wheel. This landmark is about an hour's drive from the cottage.

The Falkirk Wheel is a unique piece of engineering which joins the Union Canal and the Forth & Clyde Canal together. Boat rides can be hired here as will as bikes. Falkirks tourists information centre is on site as well as a cafe.

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. The lift, named after the nearby town of Falkirk in central Scotland, opened in 2002.
