Wonderful place to visit busy Acadia but be away from the hustle and bustle. The quiet beach, with its tide pools and hermit crabs, as well as the scene of a small crew of fisherman bringing in their lobster haul, was wonderful. It is about half an hour from bar harbor, but we didn't mind the extra scenic driving. Several hikes are not far at all. The place itself was rustic and basic but had all the necesities and charm of being decorated over the span of decades. More than enough room for our family of 4. It brought the "fall vibes" as my daughter said, as we drank hot apple cider and watched the sunset.

Rachel’s place was perfect. Being new to the island, I had lots of questions during my planning to take my family to Matinicus for a week and Rachel responded quickly and kindly each time. She even bought a new and improved blender for us in case the other two in the kitchen weren’t quite right. The house suited us to a tea. Comfortable and peaceful. The perfect place for my family to reconnect after being spread out during a busy summer. But here is the best example of Rachel’s kindness: We forgot our car key in the house and only realized once we were on the boat back. We called Rachel from Rockland make sure the key was still in the house. She quickly found it and ran it to the mail plane who was able to get it us a few hours later. It was amazing.

My family of 5 and pups stayed for a week. It was beautiful, serene, relaxing. Ecotherapy. We fished, swam, floated, kayaked, canoed, read, had campfires, played games, and made a lot of good memories. We felt disconnected from the grind and connected to one another. I was a little nervous about my length of stay with two teens and an 8yo but they had the best time. Maybe two weeks next time. Bob was considerate and thoughtful through the stay making sure we had everything we needed. We are grateful that Bob was willing to share it with us. Must go! Does not disappoint!

This was the best vacation I ever had. David and I enjoyed exploring the island as it’s very beautiful and peaceful. Kent and Heather was absolutely amazing and very responsive with every need. We want to return and stay at all locations on the island some day. Thank you for everything!

We loved our long weekend at Joe’s place. The gorgeous waterfront setting, the history, the utterly peaceful vibe, brilliant starlit night skies, reading by candlelight every night…it was a special experience to be there, and we hope to return. Thank you Joe!!

Beautiful spot — if you’re looking to experience coastal Maine, this is a great place to do that. It’s near the water and walking distance to the trails on the island. The house itself is very cute and has all the necessary amenities. Would definitely stay again!

Getting up everyday and walking to the beach, or watching the sunrise from the porch really set our day off on the right foot. We spent all day on the beach, or exploring the island. My kids collected bags of seaglass and driftwood. We splashed in the waves, soaking in all the sunshine and salty air goodness. Nights were spent taking sunset walks, making smores by the fire, and star gazing. We saw Saturn and the Milky Way! My kids had a great time on the lobster boat with Jerry. Homeschool science lesson!!! I planned and packed as if we would be camping, and that allowed us to fully enjoy the home and vacation for exactly what it was. We had hot water to wash dishes, and do sunset baths in a bin outside. My husband showered and didnt have any hot water complaints. Things I recommend-sponges, coffee if you are picky (I am), watershoes, castile soap (can be used for all cleaning needs), bug spray, headlamps for exploring at night, and a well stocked first aid kit just in case.

This was our family's second time staying here and we are already trying to plan our next time! Peaceful and beautiful way to be in nature with some comforts.

We absolutely loved our stay at eagle island. The cabin is very rustic, and might not be for everyone, but for us it was perfect. Beautiful surroundings and very private. We had fun discovering the island and getting to know the history and the few neighbors. We hope to come back.
