Roskilde is one of the country's oldest cities. Today it houses Roskilde Cathedral, the Viking Ship Museum and Roskilde Festival as well as Roskilde University Center. Roskilde is located at the end of Roskilde Fjord in a hilly terrain, so the Cathedral can be seen from large parts of Northeast Zealand. The city was a large and important city from the Middle Ages, with a cathedral and several monasteries. Roskilde Bishop was one of the most powerful people in the country, and changing kings also prioritized the city. After the Reformation, the importance of the city waned, and the black death and big city fires further made their way to reduce the population throughout the Renaissance and during the monarchy, where Copenhagen and the Øresund region grew sharply. During industrialization, the population grew steadily, as did most of the country. Today it is a charming and lively city with many beautiful alleys, small intimate spaces and a vibrant cultural life. Tak the train from Central station to Roskilde - almost any train heading west will do! - at the cost of 40.- kr. one way (Rejsekort) or 84.- kr. (One way ticket). The ride from Central station is about 25 minuts - from our place 45 minuts.

Dragør has many well-preserved historic buildings, and the old part of town consists of idyllic cobbled streets with yellow-painted houses and red brick roofs. Most of the buildings are from the 18th and 19th centuries. The harbor has a well-preserved cultural environment and is used in the present day by recreational sailboats, smaller fishing boats and as a base port for pilot boats. During the Second World War, it was fishermen from Dragør - among other - who transported persecuted people from Denmark to asylum in neutral Sweden. It is a really cozy place for a swin, eat some fresh fish and a huge ice cream with "guf" 12 km from our house. Hop on a bike or take a bus 350S from Christianshavn Torv to Dragør and have a really laid back day.

Helsingør is famous for Kronborg and the Shakespeare open air festival, for the old historic city and as the port to the rest of Scandinavia. The ferries take ten minuts to Helsingborg. We love the narrow streets, concerts at Kulturværket as well as the beach. Take the Øresundstog from Central station or from Nørreport station. The ride takes 42 minuts and cost 52.- kr. one way if you have a "Rejsekort" and 108.- kr. one way if you bye one way tickets. Prices august 2019
