City Grocery is the most famous restaurant, chef John Currence's flagship, pricey and worth it. Make a rez now if you want one. Our fav bar is the upstairs at City Grocery, esp if you snag a seat on the balcony (places opens at 4pm). Our other fav bar is a new bar that has hand-crafted cocktails and a very cool speakeasy vibe is called Bar Muse. There's no sign, but you'd find the door in the alley beside the Lyric theater. https://www.barmuseoxford.com/

One block off the Square is St. Leo's. St. Leo's is contemporary upscale Italian, great cocktail menu, small plates, wood fired pizzas. They take SOME reservations and keep some for walk-ins.

Another fav restaurant is in a strip mall called "the mid-town plaza," not very promising looking from the outside, called Snackbar. The chef Vish is James-Beard-nominated- and very creative. Fresh oysters, small plates and big plates, always nice fresh fish, some Indian inspired cuisine alongside staples.

Sola is a wine bar with a small but good menu, very creative, affordable, just a few doors from Proud Larry's. (Proud Larry's is casual, big with the college kids, live music at night.)

A chill hang out local brew beer spot with big TVs, called The Growler. It opens at 11 on Saturday, located on N lamar (you could walk there if you wanted from our place). It's tucked away behind the coffee shop Uptown Coffee.

BBB (Big Bad Breakfast) is fabulous. BBB is located next to Snackbar, and if you go there you have to try the dish named after one of my books! https://hottytoddy.com/2019/07/08/beth-ann-fennelly-my-noble-prize-caramelized/

This lunch/brunch spot is a half mile stroll (basically uphill though) for great burgers! Outside seating as well as inside. If you're heading to BBB and the line is too long, come here!

For a longer walk or run, the Whirlpool Trails can't be beat--a nice flat 3 mile trail through woods, with several paths into hillier terrain should you wish.
