Sightseeing

A short and beautiful walk, with some stairs, through native forest that leads out to the magnificent sand blow overlooking Rainbow Beach and the coloured cliffs....incredible views, great for kids to run up and slide down (take a body board or an old cardboard box!) and best enjoyed when the sand isn’t hot - mornings or later in the afternoon is best. Especially at dawn and dusk.

The true jewel in the crown...it’s amazing and diverse features are too many to describe yet all are very worth it. Day trips depart from Rainbow Beach and permits are required if travelling in your own vehicle.

Known for the daily morning visits of the dolphins as well for great fishing, Tin Can Bay has even more to offer for a quiet seaside township....a beautiful esplanade along the foreshore, with a cafe at either end to choose from, fantastic playgrounds and bbq/picnic areas, clean facilities and with native trees and incredible local bird life to observe, there’s not much I don’t love about this place. The sunrises and morning walks with my dog, Henry, are truly sublime.

Yes, it’s just over an hour south from Goomboorian but it really is a must visit if you’re travelling and exploring the Sunshine Coast....stop in on your way through, you won’t regret the natural wonders of this much loved and cared for National Park. Easy to access walking tracks either through the rainforest or along the coast line itself, both are simply spectacular.

A drive through the backroads of the Noosa Hinterland instead of taking the highway to Goomboorian can lead you through many quaint and idyllic country towns with much to offer - Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran, Kim Kin and Cedar Pocket. The Vintage Junction is a great stopping point to explore the many varied retro wares and clothing and to enjoy the cafe’s yummy smoothies and warm beverages, catering to vegan diets also.

When rainfall is plenty, these rock pools are heaven sent and a joy for all ages to explore. The two forest walks cater for different abilities - one is only 500m and suitable for most. The other, about 3km return, climbs the mountain itself. Something for everyone, public access and facilities are available.

Neighbourhoods

Gympie has a long history.... indigenous peoples settled the area for good reason - natural beauty and resources in abundance and then gold mining established it for the European and Chinese settlers (probably Americans, too!) so there is much to see and explore in Gympie City. There’s the gold mining museum, the newly restored Valley Rattler that takes you for a journey into the Mary Valley lands, there’s riverside walks and parklands at the Duck Ponds which has an all abilities playground on offer and great markets every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays. There’s much to be enjoyed in the local shopping precincts of Mary Street, Gympie Central and Southside and the local regional art gallery is also well worth the visit. And I have to mention that the views of this hilly township are particularly beautiful in jacaranda season (September through November).
