The Neokastro one of the best preserved fortresses/castles in Greece it covers an area of about 75,000 square metres from the northern foot of the Mountain Aghios Nikolaos to the right of the main southern entrance of the harbour. Erected by the Turks in 1573 and occupied by the Venetians in 1686 and the French army corp under Maison in 1828-1833.

The cows belly as translated into English a most stunning beach in the shape of omega. This beach shares some historical values. It is presumed to be homers Sandy beach where Telemachus was welcomed by King Nestor when searching for his father Odysseus. Above the beach is Nestor's Cave and above this are the ruins of thirteenth-century Frankish castle (Old Navarino or Palaiokastro). Overlooking the beach at the north eastern end is the tomb of Nestor's son, Thrasymedes of the Mycenaean period (1680–1060 BC) with Neolithic finds at the same site showing occupation as early as 4000 BC.
