Park down by the harbour, enjoy the long sandy beaches (watch out for the tides). Botany Bay is also a lovely bay. There are lots of independent shops and restaurants and a quaint old style cinema (where the paper ticket comes out of the counter) as well as The Vue multiplex cinema at Westwood Crosd on the outskirts. We recommend The Tartar Frigate and Posillipo for dinner

Zoo

Large zoo set out over a large area. There is a play area and cafeteria on the far side of the park. We particularly love the baby elephants and the gorillas. The zoo breeds and return the animals to the wild. They have recently returned rhinos and a gorilla to the wild.

My family's favourite zoo. A compact zoo with everything from Meerkats, wolves, tigers, dinosaurs and penguins. The talk (including feeding) times are listed just through the entrance and our favourites are the penguin talk, tigers (ever seen a fully grown tiger standing vertically against the fence!) and the otter talk. They also have a playground, indoor soft play, two cafeterias, go karts and mini diggers. https://winghamwildlifepark.co.uk/

Another conservation zoo but featuring animals in their natural habitat nestled in amongst trees. Its a lovely walk around and there's a cafe, an amazing playground and an enclosed rope walk above the bear enclosure.

12th Century fortress which was still used until the 16th century. Whilst these are ruins you can still go round and up some parts of the castle and the history is fascinating.

A beautiful home and gardens with a cafe. Includes a sunken garden and the woodland garden is a must in April/May with the rhododendron and azaleas out in force. Set in the countryside this is a beautiful drive. We also recommend The George Inn in Newbury for a drink or meal. Their sunday roasts come either by the plate or a whole leg of lamb or whole chicken for you to carve and serve to your group at the table. Delicious. https://www.doddingtonplacegardens.co.uk/
