Sutton Hoo (A National Trust site) sits just around the corner on the other side of the River Deben. It is a famous site where several burial mounds were discovered, including the famous Anglo Saxon boat buried with its treasures. There are guided tours on offer as well as a museum, shop and restaurant to be enjoyed. www.nationaltrust.org.uk

Surrounded by parkland and a picturesque lake, the Castle was once the centre of a vast network of power of power and influence.This is where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England. You are able to walk along the 10.5 metre high curtain wall and take in the breathtaking views of the Suffolk landscape. It is about half an hour drive from the Tower. www.english-heritage.org.uk

Framlingham Castle is an English heritage site. Surrounded by parkland and a picturesque lake, the Castle was once the centre of a vast network of power of power and influence.This is where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England. You are able to walk along the 10.5 metre high curtain wall and take in the breathtaking views of the Suffolk landscape. It is about half an hour drive from the Tower. www.english-heritage.org.uk

The history of Bawdsey: Bawdsey was recorded as a settlement in the Domesday book and with a recorded population of 57 households in 1086 was in the largest 20% of settlements recorded. Nearby Bawdsey Manor was the location of the research and development of the first Radar defence network which was used during the cold war, today there is a radar museum where you can learn more about the birth of this important technology. Bawdsey Manor was also used as a filming location for the TV series Foyle’s War.
