Awesome swimming!

A quick 5 minute bike ride or 15 minute walk from the cabin for some classic Comox Valley swimming. There is swimming for all levels in several small bends in the river here. Our kids love swimming to the other side and jumping off "Indian Rock" into the deep water. There has also been some great upgrades to the playground, and the grassy areas make for some fine picnic times.

Tubing down the Puntledge River

Tubing down the river is a Comox Valley summer right of passage. Start from the fish hatchery on Powerhouse Rd. Follow the tubers to the trail that takes you to the start. Nothing too crazy, but you should keep little ones close and everyone should wear a life jacket. The lower sections are pretty mellow and there are some great places to stop and swim on the trip down. Make sure you pull over at the Condensory bridge and have a jump with the locals. If you bring bevy's please make sure you pack yer cans out please. Our good friends at Blue Toque rent tubes in the summer and you can get at them here https://bluetoquesports.com/

Mountain Biking Part Deux

Another amazing location for some great riding. This spot could be divided into two areas. The first being Forbidden Plateau itself. Trails starting near the top of this defunct ski hill run all the way down to Comox Lake. These trails are fairly gnarly and are more for experienced riders. Expect loose rocks, big rock faces, and some pretty sweet woodsy singletrack. Most of the trails end up at the lake or along the upper Puntledge River. Either way, in the summer, its an amazing place to end a ride with a swim. The second area is more tame, and is along the Puntledge River, These are flowy mellow "green" trails with some "blue" sections thrown in for fun. Because they follow the river, there are no big climbs and these trails are very kid friendly. For maps and more infom check out www.trailforks.com

Biking, hiking and swimming. Oh my!

This is a fantastic area to go in any season. In the winter, the woods are dark, dank and moody. There are km's of well maintained CVRD trails and are well marked. The area is multi-use with MTN Bikers and hikers, but some of the trails are off limits to bikes. The river this time of the year is normally hopping and full. The falls are raging during the winter and the rocks are a cool spot to sit, listen and breathe in the misty air. In the summer time, the woods provide some nice shade and the area below Forbidden Plateau is typically a bit cooler. There are some great areas to swim along this part of the river. There are multiple small deep pools you can chill at along the trail system. Our favorites are directly at Nymph Falls and farther up the river at Barbers Hole. Both spots have great rocks to jump off of, and cool deep water to explore. A note of caution, both these areas have currents, and the approach to get into the water is sketchy and might not be the best for little ones. If you're a confident swimmer and love jumping off rocks, these areas should tick the boxes.

All Season good times by the sea.

This is one of our favorite spots in the Valley. Known locally as 'the Spit, this area is beautiful. Anytime of the day, and any season, this is a must go area. Located just past the downtown metropolis of Comox, the Spit is a large sandbar that has a road connecting a Canadian Armed Forces Navy Cadet camp (CFB Quadra) with the tip of the Spit being Komox first nations reserve land. There is good parking available, if you are travelling by car. In the summer there is great walks and swimming to be had. In the winter, this is a great spot to walk as well, especially in a good blowing West Coast Sou'Easter. Great waves and a cool spot to watch kite boarders. The views of the Beaufort Mtn Range, The Komox Glacier, and Forbidden Plateau are stunning from here. *** Locals secret, and can't give away the exact location, but for the warmest swimming on the coast by far is in the area called Little Mexico. Google it. Find it....best of luck :)

Front Country " Back Country" Skiing.

A 25 minute drive from downtown Courtenay, is the original ski hill of the Comox Valley. After closing down in the late 90's the area had turned into a hot spot for self powered mountain fun. In the winter, it's a great spot to do some day touring with your AT gear and accessing some of the old ski runs on the mountain. Likewise, split boarders will enjoy the natural terrain that that presents itself. There is easy access to Strathcona Provincial Park and Mt.Beecher for those looking for more of an adventure. Families looking for a great place to toboggan will enjoy the hill as well. It's become a well know spot to get some snow, without having to pay to play. Lot's of families will make a fire to roast hot dogs and have hot chocolate while enjoying their time up there. Guests can also arrange to have a woodfired sauna to be dropped off at 'The Downtown Cabin' after a day up the hill from Nomadic Sauna. https://nomadicsauna.ca/
