Food Scene

This place has a lot of free parking and is very close to the house. Terrific food - traditional and Tex-Mex specialties with some burger and chicken options. Really good frozen margaritas and a full bar. Some live music - mariachi's may be playing. Great outdoor patio if the weather is right. Most of the time you can hear the conversation and find a quiet spot if that's what you are looking for, but when evening hits you'll likely hear the crowd and live music.

Getting Around

This neighborhood is serviced by two important lines on the Metro Rail - Fulton Street and North Main Street. The Fulton station is within a five to ten minute walk, but once there you will not have to deal with any of Houston's traffic. Google Metro Stations Houston to see the routes and for more info. For safety, I would not necessarily recommend riding at night, but that's the same for most big cities. And the routes can be somewhat limited - Houston is a one hour drive in a car from the South side of town to the North side of town - we are still a city designed around personal vehicles or, now, Uber. But, for a good walk, and a scenic trip to downtown and back in the daytime - you can't beat this option!

Parks & Nature

One of the best parks in the city, larger than New York's Central Park, a great place for runners and for golf, swimming, biking or just hanging out on a bench people or bird watching. Check out the arboretum next door to truly go deep into nature trails or get lost in bike trails for hours. There's only a couple of options for food here, but the best is in the historic golf club in the center of it all - and it's non-exclusive and inexpensive. Other places line the park on Wescott Street.
