The Terbo team is simply the best coffee destination in Franschhoek. At a mere 5km down the R45 from our farm, Terbodore is both convenient and special--all the locals get their caffeine fix here! Good coffee, good pastries, and lovely staff--a must for all visitors.

There is such a range of dining options in town, but Village Grill hits the sweet spot by offering a trendy, vintage atmosphere with a classic but interesting steakhouse menu, sans too many frills. Their steaks and sauces are hard to top, plus they offer a range of other beautiful starters and mains for everyone, vegetarians included. Not to mention the lovely garden in back, where you can enjoy a sundowner in the brilliant summertime! And you can also buy some lekker meat from the Butcher for your next braai. Win, win, win.

Using ingredients from the amazing gardens of their working farm, of which they are extremely proud, the Farm Deli offers a lovely breakfast menu, coffee, and juices. While there, you can walk the gardens, tour the manor house, and browse their shelves for farm-fresh goodies to take home (from eggs and veggies, to fresh baked bread, to preserves, to their famous bubbly).

The Moor Gallery, which opened in 2016, offers beautiful exhibitions of South African art from around the country that change every five weeks. The collections they showcase are really stunning. If you want to get your art fix while in Franschhoek, the Moor Gallery is not to be missed.

Parks & Nature
If you are looking for a bit of nature without investing too much of your day (or requiring too much fitness), the La Motte hiking trail is a perfect choice. At approximately 5km long, this trail is great for casual hikers--no skill or high fitness level required. The trail takes you behind the historical farm, up the mountain side where you can appreciate some beautiful fynbos and of course amazing views of the Valley--just a teaser of the hiking possibilities in the area. Plan on about an hour to complete the hike.

La Motte
If you are looking for a bit of nature without investing too much of your day (or requiring too much fitness), the La Motte hiking trail is a perfect choice. At approximately 5km long, this trail is great for casual hikers--no skill or high fitness level required. The trail takes you behind the historical farm, up the mountain side where you can appreciate some beautiful fynbos and of course amazing views of the Valley--just a teaser of the hiking possibilities in the area. Plan on about an hour to complete the hike.
If you are more ambitious in your outdoors activities, Mont Rochelle is the way to go. Amazing trails for hiking, running, and cycling along the mountains near the Franschhoek Pass. For nature lovers, this is a must.

Whether or not you are intent on buying some souvenirs during your stay, browsing the shops up and down Huguenot Road in Franschhoek is one of the great pass-times, and you would be remiss if you did not check out Masquerade, a gift shop at the front of town. They offer a variety of vintage-themed gift and decor items, all with a bit of a French flair. The shop is a bit pricey, but there is a range of different treasures worth a browse for sure--they get new things all the time, so you never know what you'll find!
