13 minutes, 7.1 miles from the camp. This place is great. A little donut shop in downtown Sanford that I stumbled upon by chance. The Yelp reviews say it all check them out. They have breakfast sandwiches, coffee, etc.. but the mini donuts are amazing. I DoorDashed some to my wife and kids one weekend when I wasn't at the camp with them. They raved about them! They're only open certain days. Check their website.

The Shed and Willy's Ale Room (A cherry picked 5 star Yelp review) "We love The Shed and Willy's Ale Room. Three different atmospheres under one roof with the same, extensive menu. Bar and high tops, picnic tables and pool, or a higher end atmosphere in the circular room. Food is fresh, service is top notch. It's a place the locals and seasonal folks go to enjoy a creative menu in a country setting. We always feel welcome as soon as we hit the door. Only suggestion; more craft beer options for those of us who like craft. Still a 5 tho. Always a great time and we've enjoyed the outdoor patio in the summer. Great place; can't go wrong there." 1060 Maine Route 109, Acton, Maine (207) 636-3369 www.willysaleroom.com 2.8 miles. 4 minutes by car

35 minutes away, 21 miles High End Restaurant. Joshua grew up on the family’s farm, Easter Orchard, 6 miles from the restaurant. In the 70’s and 80’s his parents were “back to the landers” raising most of their own food and selling desserts and organic vegetables. “I have vivid memories of accompanying my father on weekly trips to restaurant kitchens delivering crates of lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, fresh herbs, maple walnut tarts and fudge pies.” says Josh. Joshua’s is committed to using Maine grown grains, honey, maple syrup, foraged mushrooms and plants, and locally raised fruit and vegetables (over 12,000 pounds from our own farm). “My earliest training in making bread, creating salads fresh from the garden, butchering pork, beef and chicken was at my mother’s and father’s side. Knowing where food comes from and how it ends up on our tables was central to my upbringing.” said Josh.

50 minutes, 39 miles from the camp. Higher End, but not crazy expensive. I'm partial to Dimillo's because it's in my hometown and it's such a great and unique place. It's on a ship in the Portland harbor. Whenever celebrities or friends come from out of town, this is where the locals tell them to dine. "DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant.” One of the largest such restaurants in the country, her overall length is 206 feet, with a beam of 65 feet. She weighs 701 tons and boasts a -horsepower steam engine (but we promise not to fire it up while you’re dining). We are able to seat over 600 guests in our First Deck Dining Room, Port Side Lounge, Second Deck Dining Rooms and three Outside Decks. Indoor & Outdoor Dining Options Are Available! DiMillo’s on The Water will be open Monday – Saturday, from 12 – 9pm serving some of your favorite Maine classics like clam chowder and lobster rolls! Call them for dining reservations.

Its beachside amusement park, boardwalk, and iconic 500-foot-long pier have made Old Orchard Beach Maine’s summertime playground for more than a century. But the town affectionately dubbed “OOB” is also a vibrant, year-round community known for its natural beauty and civic pride. “Locals taking the time to chat is why many of us chose Old Orchard Beach as our home,” says Pat Brown, who moved to the town with her husband, James, and sister, Rosie, in 1998. A devoted volunteer, Brown is also a parent and grandparent who enjoys sharing OOB with her family. “Within minutes of their arrival, we hit the beach for a walk to check out Googins Rocks, then on to the quaint neighborhood of Ocean Park,” says Brown. Turning back toward home, they stop by Veterans Memorial Park so the kids can play before heading up Old Orchard Street. “We might stop along the way to get a slice at Rocco’s, or some Pier Fries, and we always go to Dickinson’s Candy to visit with ‘The Candy Man,’ Mike Dickinson.” The walkability of OOB is something her visitors truly appreciate, says Brown. “Within one and a half miles we have our Libby Memorial Library; the Harmon Museum; grocery, liquor, and hardware stores; a friendly bank; drug store; post office; laundromat; wonderful ice cream; and specialty shops like Beachology—where I find a ‘must-have’ every time I stop in.” Also nearby are the Ballpark—home of the Old Orchard Beach Surge—and the Seaside Pavilion, a seasonal outdoor concert venue operated by the Salvation Army. “There’s a wonderful shoulder season— September through Thanksgiving—that I’ve come to love more than any other time because many of our local establishments are still open and locals can all reconnect,” says Brown. In all seasons, seven miles of beach and the open Atlantic Ocean are constants, just like this timeless Maine town. Old Orchard Beach’s famous pier was once more than three times as long as it is now and had a ballroom that could hold 5,000 dancers at the end. The Pier Casino, as it was called, hosted the likes of Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and Frank Sinatra. Local icon In operation since 1902, Palace Playland has the distinction of being New England’s only beachfront amusement park. Its array of 25 rides and attractions include old-school favorites like Skeeball as well as the 70-foot tall coaster, Sea Viper, which debuted in 2018. 29 miles away, 42 minutes by car

Footbridge Beach Footbridge Beach, at the north end of Ogunquit Beach, offers a quieter alternative with access on Ocean Street, about a mile north of the Ogunquit town center. You always can walk from Footbridge Beach to Ogunquit Beach next door for more action. Locals avoid the crowds and the small parking fees by entering Footbridge Beach from a plank footbridge that spans the Ogunquit River. Public restrooms are available at Footbridge Beach, and lifeguards are on duty all summer.
