Kankijicho Shimogyo WardFrom steam locomotive to Shinkansen, 53 of the actual railway vehicles that led Japan's modernization are gathered here. The exhibition unfolds along the "discover, touch, and experience" theme and is about much more than just looking. It offers learning combined with fun for all ages, from children to adults. The roundhouse platform is home to 20 steam locomotives, and the sight of the engines lined up there in the shape of an open fan is quite spectacular. The Steam Locomotive No. 2 Service Shed adjoining the main building is where the steam locomotive maintenance and repairs take place, and visitors can also see these works being carried out. The Raku Museum features pottery created using Raku family techniques and traditions. Many of the ceramic works are related to the tea ceremony, especially tea bowls, but also vases and water vessels.
