The house is set in impressive grounds with lots of walks. The deer park is above is especially impressive with long ranging vies over Plymouth, Plymouth Sound and further out to sea as well as Dartmoor in the background. There is a nice cafe and shop there. From here you can also hop over to Plymouth on the Cremyll ferry.

The hotel does good food and there's a nice garden out the front, etc but the real reason it is great is because it is such an impressive building overlooking the sea. It also has an 18 hole golf course wrapped around it.
