Food scene

Just a few minutes down the road is one of our favorite spots, especially in the summer when the outdoor kitchen/beer garden is in full swing. Ithaca Beer Co not only has great beer, they also have their our own working farm that produces a wide range of seasonal produce that fuels their menu. Great place to bring a frisbee or soccer ball or enjoy their field games on a sunny day.

I recently tried this new Ithaca restaurant. I went back the next day because I couldn't think of anything else I would rather eat! The Lev Kitchen concept is inspired by a Yemeni flatbread called Malawach and the cuisines from countries such as Israel, Lebanon and Syria. In their words, "if a croissant and pita were to have a baby, Malawach would be the result." Their salads are local, seasonal, and absolutely delicious. They have an inspired wine, cider, and non-alcoholic drink menu as well. Highly recommend for lunch (everyday!), picnic, or takeout.

"Ithaca is Gorges": State Parks

Right in our back yard! Robert H. Treman State Park is an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its scenic highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park. There are nine miles of hiking trails and swimming in a stream-fed pool beneath a waterfall. Swimming is allowed in lifeguarded area only and typically runs early July through August. Check the website to confirm dates the swimming holes and trails are open: https://parks.ny.gov/parks/135/

Another fantastic state park, just two miles away. Buttermilk Falls State Park takes its name from the foaming cascade formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake. The upper park has a small lake, hiking trails through woodlands and along the gorge and rim, picnic areas and playing fields. The lower park has a nice playground, natural pool, and playing fields, beyond which is Larch Meadows.

20 minutes down the road in Trumansburg, Taughannock Falls State Park's namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail. The lakeside section of the park also has a marina, boat launch, nice playground, and a beach nearby. In the winter you can also enjoy cross-country skiing, sledding slopes, and natural skating ponds. Recommend getting picnic supplies at Main Street Market in downtown Trumansburg.
