Superb for late-night sipping and supping, this convivial brasserie sparkles with gracious staff, celebrity regulars and fabulous seafood-centric dishes (the bouillabaisse is brilliant). Both the front and back bars are a hit with the eye-candy brigade and perfect for a postmeal flirt.

Nightlife

A Stockholm institution since 1862, this glitzy entertainment palace remains one of the city’s hottest party spots. While the gorgeous ballroom hosts some brilliant live-music gigs, the best of Berns’ bars is in the intimate basement, packed with cool creative types, top-notch DJs and projected art-house images. Check the website for a schedule of events; some require advance ticket purchase.

Rock stars need a suitably excessive place to schmooze, booze and groove, one with glittering chandeliers, ceiling frescoes and a jet-set vibe. This bar-club combo fits the bill, but it’s also welcoming enough to make regular folk feel like rock stars. If you only have time to hit one primo club during your visit, this is a good choice.

East is a bar, restaurant and club rolled into one. Great cocktails make it a bartender hang-out. Dishes have a predominantly modern Asian twist (locals recommend the sushi), carrying influences from Vietnam, Korea and Japan. Set right in the heart of Östermalm on Stureplan, it's a good place for fuelling up before or during a club night.

Though it's no longer the super-hip star of the scene it once was, the Spy Bar (aka ‘the Puke’; spy means vomit in Swedish) is still a landmark and fun to check out if you’re making the Östermalm rounds. It covers three levels in a turn-of-the-century flat (spot the tile stoves).

Consejos para la ciudad

Cómo moverse

Public transport, best way to get around in Stockholm.

Public transport is the best option when getting around in the city. Traffic isn't good and parking is very difficult, apart of being really expensive. So public transport, which includes metro, bus, tram and boats; are great to get you into the city of Stockholm. Plenty options and quite cheap. Get a travel car (SL card) and any train station or any Pressbyrån store and refill it with single trips or 24hs, 72hs, week, etc

Kungliga Slottet (Palace)

Kungliga Slottet was built on the ruins of Tre Kronor castle, which burned down in 1697. The north wing survived and was incorporated into the new building. Designed by court architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, it took 57 years to complete. Highlights include the decadent Karl XI Gallery, inspired by Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors, and Queen Kristina’s silver throne in the Hall of State.

Skansen

The world’s first open-air museum, Skansen was founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius to provide an insight into how Swedes once lived. You could easily spend a day here and not see it all. Around 150 traditional houses and other exhibits dot the hilltop – it’s meant to be ‘Sweden in miniature’, complete with villages, nature, commerce and industry.
