Choose a good weather day. It can be cold in the mountains. The Forest of El Cedro is without a doubt the most important site of the Parque Nacional de Garajonay and one of the reasons that the park was placed on the Unesco World Heritage list in 1986. It is a small part of the large amount of laurel forest that covers 85% of the national park. However, El Cedro is special because it is an ancient forest, which has remained unchanged for centuries, full of history and legends. The forest is bisected by the soothing stream El Cedro. The laurel forest consists of a large amount of mixed trees (El Cedro has 12 species) all of which have a leaf similar to laurel. In the middle there is a micro climate that creates an incredible biodiversity that is completely harmless and full of endemic species. On the branches of the trees grow mosses and lichens and the ground is covered with multicolored leaves and ferns that give this place a prehistoric and mysterious sight.
