Everyday life

This neighborhood is amazing! People are so nice and you have all basic amenities in a walking distance. Supermarket, market with fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, pharmacy, post office, cafes, restaurants (pizzaria, sea food, traditional Portuguese food) and nice shops. All by the sea side, where one can sense the greatness of the ocean. I strongly recommend having breakfast - or just a snack - in Chitas Cafe. Sr. Zé do the most delicious traditional toasts and “queques” ( like a muffin). It is the cafe where all neighborhood use to go, it is very characteristic, we would say “castiço” in Portuguese. Just beside you have “Hortelã Pimenta” where the sympathy of the owner is already a good motive to go there. It is a shop where you can buy a nice selection of clothes, souvenirs and house decors. At this summer she is selling 100% linen clothes made in Italy with amazing colors. She also does t-shirt printings upon request. A must! You also have D. Gina shop where you can find the traditional “mantas alentejanas” , tapestry from Alentejo (southeast Portugal). In front, you have the most delicious Italian food. Grab a pizza and enjoy the sunset in the beach. Búzio restaurant is woth it. A bit expensive but super nice and fresh fish and sea food. It is there for decades. If you need a nice massage or nails care, I strongly recommend Menina e Moça, a beauty saloon in the post office area. Again the sympathy of the owner and her amazing care is already a good motive to go there! She also sells Portuguese and vegan cosmetics with good prices. If you enjoy walking in nature you have a lot to explore. You can adventure walking (and climbing) along the coast, accompanied with the greatness of the ocean. Going east, you’ll find the tranquility and freshness of the pine trees.

Passeio turístico

Azenhas do Mar is a small village just beside Praia das Maçãs. It’s beach can be very tiny, depending on the tide, but you can always choose to have a swim in its oceanic swimming pool. The panorama is just incredibly beautiful!

Praia Grande is the stage for a Surf World Chapionship. It is also the scenario of the beautiful Wim Wenders movie from 1982, “The State of Things”. The beach has several cafes and Restaurants along the seaside, providing a good support to spend a good day there.
