Sightseeing

The wedge is an iconic spot with very big waves at times. It may not be the best place for novice ocean go-ers, but the views are incredible. The wedge is the very end of the peninsula, so you can see the bay meet the ocean. The sailboats, jet skis, and large boats dot the skyline. I usually see dolphins too. This beach is my favorite. It’s quiet, and beautiful.

You can stroll down a meandering creek path tucked in the middle of a neighborhood hardly seen at this nature center. There’s a butterfly house too. Make sure to ask about how the ENC began.

Outdoor Activities

The Back Bay loop is a 11.4 mile loop. There are optional off road paths for a portion, and paved surface throughout for walking or biking. It’s a beautiful nature path. The views change with the seasons and natural vegetation growth. When you are in the wetlands portion you’ll inevitably see plenty of herons and other birds.

Cruise around the bay in an electric boat. This is a local favorite. Duffy boats are part of the history of Newport Beach. You can cruise for hours. Tip: bring food and drink. There’s a bench style table in the center, and music on board. They’ll give you a map so you don’t get lost.
