My family's favorite place to go on a walk. It's less than 5 minutes away, has lots of paved walking trails, and a fantastic treehouse playground for children.

There is a reason the Toledo Zoo has won awards as the Best Zoo in the United States! An incredibly diverse collection of animals in an urban setting. Small enough to make it easy to navigate for a family, but with enough things to see and do for the full day, and many visits in the future! Constant improvements by the zoo also ensure there is almost always something new to see on each visit. Could not recommend it enough!

The Indian Creek Zoo is a great way to get up and close to a variety of different animals. You have the option to purchase food to feed most of the animals and you can rest easy knowing that most of the animals on display are rescues.

Toledo’s science center: The Imagination Station. This is a hands-on place with something for children of all ages. Parking tip: park at the Vistula Parking Garage (at the corner of Orange & Cherry) and use the underground tunnel. This route is handicap friendly (no stairs) and avoids walking outside in the elements. A video explaining the process (which isn’t as easy as it sounds) is posted here: https://www.imaginationstationtoledo.org/media/04rh1sdq/construction-parking-map.pdf

Fort Meigs was a United States fortification along the Maumee River in what is now Perrysburg, Ohio during the War of 1812. The British Army, supported by Tecumseh's Confederacy, failed to capture the fort during the siege of Fort Meigs. Today visitors can take self-guided tours of the fort and museum at the largest reconstructed, wooden-walled fort in the United States.

The museum itself is free but be prepared to pay for parking. The permanent collection includes works from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome; paintings by such Old Masters as Rembrandt, Gainsborough, and Turner; decorative arts, African and Asian art; and works by modern masters such as Matisse, and Picasso.

Public state park with beaches, trails, and beautiful views. During the summertime, my family loves to go here, swim in the bay, build a sandcastle and collect freshwater shells.

If your kids are prehistoric enthusiasts (like mine) they might enjoy Fossil Park in Sylvania. You park very close, then go down a ramp into a quarry that is full of fossils. Unfortunately, these all predate dinosaurs and are very small (the size of pebbles), but very plentiful. Sharp tools are prohibited, but brushes and water are encouraged and will help with your search. The quarry is an open area without water or shade. If it's a hot day: plan ahead and bring sunscreen, hats, and water to drink.

The closes and (in my opinion) best pizza around! Check their website for daily deals and coupons, then call to order. For some reason their website thinks the Airbnb is out of their delivery area even though it's literally around the corner.

It’s where we order from when we want cheap and decent Chinese food. Theresa orders the sesame chicken and egg drop soup. Nathan loves the crab rangoon. They do offer delivery, but sometimes it can take an hour to get it to you. If you can, we suggest just going to pick up your food.

Middle Eastern Market/Sidon is our favorite local Middle Eastern market. It not only has a very well-stocked grocery store, but its deli is a great place to get fully cooked (cold) food to heat up later. The market side is called “Middle East Market” and “The Sidon” is the restaurant next door, same owners, same company, but different entrances. You can order food from Sidon on their website: sidongrille.com My family loves the Half Mix Kabob Platter which is enough to feed 4 adults and 2 children.

The original and the legend. A great place for hot dogs with an Eastern-European flare. If you’re a fan of the TV show M*A*S*H you’ll probably remember Klinger raving about it in several episodes. There are a few satellite Tony Packo’s, but the original is well worth the trip to see all of the famous autographed hot dog buns.

Restaurant in Sylvania serving locally sourced food. It’s a bit upscale, but you can still go in jeans and a t-shirt. The menu is very limited, but you know that everything you can order is fresh and delicious. The menu is a bit pricey, but tips are included in the price.

Glass City Metropark is my family's new favorite spot. A bit of a dirve, but well worth it.
