Nearby, Tempe Town Lake is dotted with kayaks, pedal boats and paddleboards. Tempe Beach Park hosts outdoor festivals. Rising above the city, Hayden Butte is a mountain dotted with centuries-old rock art. Sporting events and concerts are held at Wells Fargo Arena.
Most cities in Maricopa County are within driveable distance of Tempe, and they're not too far. There are a lot of restaurants and bars on Mill Avenue.

South Mountain is one of the US' largest public parks. It is a desert nature preserve and one of my favorite hiking spots. It's about a 20 minute drive from my place and there are many trails in this area, but Kiwanis Trailhead is best for beginners and travelers. It's also got some great views, so be prepared to take lots of photos!

Tempe Town Lake is near ASU and downtown, and it's lit up during the night time with great views then. There are a lot of scooters there available to rent, and paved roads that go on for miles.
