Places not to be missed during your trip to the Perigord region of France.
Chateau de Hautefort, 10 minutes drive from Les Taloches, sits perched high above the beautiful town of Hautefort. The old medieval fortress, probably built on the site of a Roman camp, was transformed into country residence in the 17th century. The interior contains a collection of furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries. In the 19th century, the renowned landscape architect the Count of Choulot designed the French gardens surrounding the castle and created the English-style park, which offers varied views of the countryside and the surrounding villages.

The original caves (over 18,000 years old) were discovered in 1940 and whilst the original caves were closed to the public in 1963, you can now visit a complete replica.

Family run, this restaurant offers good value plat du jour at lunchtimes and an exceptional a la carte menu in the evenings. Emphasis is on fresh, local produce with a creative flair. Highly recommended for a special meal and open all year round. It has a beautiful external terrace for summer and indoors a log burner for the colder months.

French Summer Night Markets

Throughout July & August most towns & villages host weekly summer night markets, offering food, music, entertainment in the most beautiful of settings. Here in the Dordogne, there are plenty to choose from...large city ones such as Perigueux or small intimate ones such as Saint-Robert (in the Correze).
