The Odeon of Herodes Atticus - known as the "Herodeon" - is situated on the southern slopes of the Acropolis, on Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. Entry to the Odeon is from the pedestrianised Dionyssiou Areopagitou Street, a walkway linking Athens’ main archaeological sites. The venue is easily accessible due to its location in the heart of the city.

Is one of the best museums in Athens. There is an enormous collection of about 25,000 items from the 3rd century AD through to medieval times. While it is not what you might normally think of as ‘Ancient Greece’, this Byzantine period was influenced by the Classical Period and was extremely influential in the culture of Athens today. Stop at Monastiraki Station Μ1 and change Lines to M3 metro , stop at Evagelismos Station, walk for 250 meters to the museum

Sightseeing

Where better place to start but at the Acropolis, the most recognisable landmark in Athens. It takes a couple of hours to explore the site and there is a bit of uphill walking. There are the ruins of buildings and monuments on ground level but the highlights are on the top, where the Parthenon takes centre stage.

The Plaka is the oldest section of Athens. Most of the streets have been closed to automobile traffic, though you should still keep a watchful eye for a speeding motorcycle or delivery truck. At one time it was the nightclub district, but most of these closed down when the government outlawed amplified music in the neighborhood in the seventies in an effort to get rid of undesirables. The strategy was very successful and it is now an area of restaurants, Jewelry stores tourist shops, and cafes. Though it is quite commercialized it is still a neighborhood and arguably the nicest neighborhood in central Athens. Most of the restaurants are typical tourist places but the quality of food is not

One of the oldest neighbourhoods of Athens, today Thiseio is the busiest of the three neighbourhoods surrounding Philopappou Hill. The quaint neighbourhood was transformed, at the turn of the century, into a tourist hub and favourite spot for the Athenian youth thanks to the creation of the promenade which begins opposite the Hadrian Gate and ends, two kilometres to the north-west, at the Thiseio Metro Station. The pedestrian streets of Apostolou Pavlou and Irakleidon are full of open air cafes, restaurants and bars buzzing with people from early morning to well after midnight, creating a festive atmosphere particularly during spring and summer. Visit Stoa Attalos, in Thiseio area
