Food Scene

If you want to grab a quick and filling breakfast try their bombers. My favorite is the Chuns featuring kalua pork and bacon; try it loaded for extra kick! They also make great milkshakes.

There is another location near Kailua Beach but that is for a quick bite or to go. The Cafe and Deli also offers quick breakfast items and has a nice bakery selection, dinner is where it's at. They have a great wine list and a varied upscale menu. Eating on the back lanai can be quite romantic with the lights strung in the trees.

Kailua Farmers market is in the Whole Foods parking lot/ If your a foodie it is a must. So many amazing food stands and live music. Get there early so you can have a chance to check it out. It finishes at 7pm. Sunday morning is another Farmer's Market at the Kailua Elementary School. Great coffee, baked goods, breakfast and fresh produce. Starts at 0700. Also the Saturday Farmer's Market from 0730-1130 by Diamond Head is pretty popular. It has a huge array of food stands, produce, and lots of samples and entertainment. Parking is at the Kapiolani Community College. This place def gets crowded so if you can get there earlier and maybe hike Diamond Head first and then head down for breakfast.

Amazing margaritas! Try the Liliko flavored or Strawberry. Huge and worth the money. They don't go easy on the tequila - so be careful. Mexican food not bad for Hawaii.

Parks & Nature

Places close to Kailua that are definitely worth visiting. The last few on the list are not in Kailua, but worth visiting if you have the time.
The hike is a light-moderate workout as it's mostly uphill but is completely doable for adults and children (I've seen toddlers and people carrying infants on their back) The views are stunning and the graffiti covered pillbox makes for a nice photo backdrop.

Essentials

Close to the apartment and has all the essentials. Long's has a great selection of souvenirs and local food items.
Target is a great one-stop shop in Kailua. You can pick up your groceries, pharmacy needs, and souvenirs all in one place. Their prices are generally better than the traditional grocery stores in the area (although their selection isn't as great for some items).
