One of my favourites, Japanese food with a Taiwanese twist. Has great peking duck wrappers as well as ngiri. Tuesday nights usually has live music (but gets booked out super early, make sure you ask for downstairs seating).

Fantastic cafe for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just coffee. Their meals are intricately constructed masterpieces. You will not come away hungry. Usually a queue on weekends, but worth a wait in the adjoining park.

One of the local pubs, has a great cheap menu most nights. Menu is getting more Southern US styled which is great, po boys (no blackened catfish sadly for me!), really interesting burgers and all the usual aussie pub favourites. Oh and the craft brew menu is outstanding with some 33 odd on tap.

Walk down Elizabeth Street, across Hyde Park and down into the domain to Mrs Macquarie's Chair (spoiler alert, it's not actually a chair). Admire the harbour bridge and opera house, and walk along the shore to the opera house. Have a drink at the Opera bar and either go shopping or keep walking to and across the bridge. Beautiful walk, and when you get tired, jump on the train at Wynyard or Circular Quay and head on back to Central.

Also has buses but I confess that I don't usually take the bus from Central, the buses I do take are usually from Wynyard as they're heading north.
