A stay on the West Bench isn't complete without a stop at Delsa's especially on a hot summer day. They have a great selection of delicious ice cream, both unique and familiar flavors.

Sockeye is a Boise institution. It's a good place to catch a game or just enjoy some local brews. If you like what you drink you can get a $6 six-pack and bring some back to share with your hosts :)

It doesn't look like much from the outside - the location used to be a Long John Silvers - but inside is a tasty fast-casual Mexican restaurant. I've never had something there I didn't like.

Great Location right on the greenbelt in the newly-revived Garden City. We love going here for some wine and appetizers, then taking a walk on the greenbelt or across the bridge at Esther Simplot Park.

"Burgers on the Side" is their catch-phrase. BFC is another boise icon . . . as expected in the potato state, they serve up fries with different potato varieties, cuts, ketchups, and seasonings. And the burgers are actually some of the best in town, especially the bison burger. Oh and try some of their homemade soda.

Our pick for a sit-down restaurant downtown. Nice-casual atmosphere, great food and reasonable prices. Haven't tried much in the way of drinks here but with the location at 8th and Idaho it's not a far walk to just about anything you could ask for.

Bardenay is a must-visit for cocktail junkies, and good for dinner as well. The nation's first restaurant-distillery, they have an extensive drink menu, great bartenders, and a handful of homemade spirits (gin is my favorite). Start with a house martini with basque olives, you won't be disappointed.

Essentials

Right around the corner, Winco is the best place to get all your standard groceries. Definitely check out their bulk food section - it's impressive.

Parks & Nature

This park is a little gem for West-Enders. This gravel-pit-turned-wetlands hosts birds and other critters year round. There is a nice gravel trail that meanders through the ponds with info kiosks here and there. Keep an eye out for the bat sculpture that doubles as a bat rookery.

Hike to the top of Camel's Back for a great view of the city. The park (and nearby Hull's Gulch) is a great jumping-off point to explore Boise's 190+ miles of foothills trails.

If you only have a few hours in Boise, spend at least some of the time walking on the Greenbelt. It is a mostly-paved path that follows the river from Eagle Road to Lucky Peak Dam. There is a route on both sides of the river for most of the length, and it passes through multiple parks and nature areas. If you have a bike, it is absolutely the best way to see the city.

Want a good night of local taps, music, and arts? Hit up the one-two punch of Meriwether Cider and Barbarian Brewing. There is almost always something going on (and usually a food truck at dinner time) and the drinks are some of the best in town.

Lovely little tasting right on the river. Great place to kick off on a summer evening on the greenbelt. A short walk from restaurants, breweries, parks, the market. There is also a GreenBike (Boise's bike-share program) hub out front if you want to ride into town.

Getting Around

You can catch the bus downtown here, just a short walk from the house. The 7a bus (https://www.valleyregionaltransit.org/media/1092/route7a_7b.pdf) stops here every hour during the day and takes about 20 minutes to get downtown. Note; on weekends the bus stops running at 6:00pm, so plan another way back. Uber is probably your best bet.

Sightseeing

The grove plaza is kind of the heart of Boise. The fountains are great for kids playing in the summer, and at night the light shows are pretty impressive. Lots of food, drinks, and shopping within a couple blocks, and the bus station is right around the corner.
