Petres is located at the eastern end of the vast beachfront of Episkopi It is named after the imposing Petres Gorge that finishes here. In the main cove of Vythos, which lies north of the others, there are umbrellas and it is less sandy. The rocky seabed is ideal for fishing and snorkelling.The river of Petres Gorge is fed by the waters of Kollita Gorges and the surrounding area, covering almost half Rethymnon Prefecture. It has water all year round and forms an important wetland of Crete, especially at its mouth near Episkopi beach, 13km west of Rethymno. The narrow part of it is quite small and is approximately 1km long.

Από εκεί ξεκινάει τεράστια αμμώδης παραλία και συνεχίζει με τη παραλία της Επισκοπής, με τα πιο καθαρά νερά έξω από την πόλη. Πολλές διάσπαρτες καντίνες και μικρές ταβέρνες πάνω στην αμμουδιά.Δεν πρέπει όμως να φυσάει πολύ γιατί δημιουργούνται θαλάσσια ρεύματα και βαθαίνει απότομα.
