Vienna State Opera The Vienna State Opera began construction in 1861, being completed in 1869. It is located in the centre of the city on the Ringstrasse (central ring road). It has a reputation throughout the world for its excellent performances. It is also the main venue of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Being a place well known for its impressive musical and operatic history, a visit to Vienna would not be complete without a visit to the opera! The building itself is equally impressive, boasting stunning vaulted ceilings and an ornate marble staircase in front of the main entrance.
