North Fork; Moderate Hike 14.0 miles; Many miles of shoreline to discover. (You will need to plan ahead for a pass and go early to find parking.)
Take a drive to Bowman Lake, Don't forget Polebridge Mercantile for a huckleberry claw. Closed in winter. You can drive up to the mercantile and then snowshoe into the lake, but road to bowman is closed during the winter. Spring and fall dependent on snow conditions
Located 25 miles North of Apgar Visitor Center, Polebridge is a small Western town acting as the gateway to the North Fork area of Glacier National Park. It’s a quirky place, and worth a stop in at the mercantile for a huckleberry bear claw. Continue East down the only road into Polebridge and you will encounter a national park entry station. Clear signage will direct you to Bowman Lake, better known as Alison’s favorite place ever. Enjoy the peaceful, placid lake and take a walk down the 7.0 miles of shoreline trail.

There is something magical about bowman lake. It is the place that kept calling us back to Montana before we moved here in 1992. Even though there are more visitors to the lake you will still experience the essence of spectacular beauty at bowman. Camping there is possible but a day excursion, hike or kayak makes this one of the most memorable moments in Glacier.
