Situated in front of the city of Rethymno, it is a long sandy beach, extended at a length of approximately 12 kilometers to the East. Within the city and its suburbs, it is very crowded in summer, but going eastwards you can find parts with less people. As it is open to the North, it is affected by the "meltemia" (northern summer winds). Very well organized, it offers abundant accommodation facilities, of any kind and for all budgets, taverns, restaurants and cafes at the sea front and facilities of swimming, sunbathing (sunbeds, umbrellas) and sea sports. If you like diving, a diving centre and facilities as diving excursions and diving lessons are available.

The sandy beach of Rethymno city is located just 500m east of the city centre, next to the Venetian port. It's a lovely beach with golden sand and crystal clear shallow water, very well organized and close to all amenities of the city.

The sandy beach of Rethymno city is located just 500m east of the city centre, next to the Venetian port. It's a lovely beach with golden sand and crystal clear shallow water, very well organized and close to all amenities of the city. It is actually the westernmost end of the 13km long beachfront of Rethymno Bay, which stretches east all the way to Skaleta. The vast beach is always busy, but never seems too crowded. It is needless to say that on the beach you will find services such as umbrellas, lifeguard, beach bars, showers, changing rooms, water sports, etc. But what you really should know is that the loggerhead sea turtle (Carretta carretta) lays its eggs on the beach. Thus, do not get surprised if you meet some places that have been marked with ropes; eggs have been found there and are protected by swimmers. The Rethymno Gulf is one of the three most important places for the loggerhead sea turtle in Greece with more than 400 nests every year.

Walking during the sunset is just beautiful and a must for any visitor. Every year Rethymno's beach is awarded with a blue flag, so the water is clean, it is safe (always take consideration of the wind flags, red flag prohibits swimming), so get a sunbed and enjoy the sea along with snacks and refreshments.
