The Archaeological Museum of Corfu has been located in a modern, two-storey building in the Garitsa area since 1967. It showcases a wide range of antiquities from the ancient city of Corfu and the rest of the island. From 2012 to 2016, a comprehensive project was undertaken to restore the building complex and re-exhibit the collections using a modern museological approach. The new exhibition provides visitors with the opportunity to explore the cultural heritage of the island from Prehistoric to Roman times, featuring a diverse collection of exhibits that include both important works of art and everyday objects.

In a 1960s building, the Corfu Archaeological Museum displays archaeological finds from sites across the island, most notably from Kanoni, Corfu's ancient capital. The most important exhibit is the 17-meter-long Gorgon Pediment from the sixth-century-BC Temple of Artemis at Kanoni. Fully intact, it depicts a demonic-looking Medusa wearing a belt of intertwined serpents and flanked by a panther to each side. The museum is currently closed for renovation with an unknown completion date.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the archaeological collection of Corfu, as small, was housed in a High School of the city and later transferred to a building built to create an Archaeological Museum. Its original purpose was to host and exhibit antiquities from the Temple of Artemis Corfu. Excavations that were carried out later were the reason for which the expansion of the Museum was required, as a result of which additions and appropriate alterations were created in order to adequately house the now rich archaeological collection of Corfu. The Museum was inaugurated in March 2019 after its renovation and the re-exhibition of its collections.
