The Monument, which is in the very the heart of downtown Indy, built in 1902, offers free entry to climb to the top of the 275 foot tower to the observation deck, but has recently been undergoing renovations, so check to see if it’s open before you go. However, below the Monument there is the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum which is open and completely free. Open Friday-Sunday from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

The heart of the city is this monument with the woman facing south, welcoming the soldiers home from the Civil War. A fixed compass, you can use her to know which way is south. The circle can be confusing, I look up at her daily.
