Travel to the hill country out 71 west, 45 minutes by car: One of the many LCRA-run Recreation Parks on the Colorado River in the hill country, this one near Spicewood. The lakes are all full as of this writing (2016) -- for the first time in 50 years. The parks in the Western district region are great places to camp, boat and spend time with family. Local to some award-winning barbeque like Opie's, and It's All Good BBQ. I used to work at this particular park, and it's lovely.

Boating, mountain bike trails, camping, fishing, beautiful lake views... Miles of mountain biking trails, miles to hike, miles of lakeshore. Beautiful in it’s own way, whatever the season - if you appreciate the beauty of nature. Miles of multiuse trails immerse you in the Texas Hill Country. Enjoy tent camping along the shore of Lake Travis or under the shade of oak-tree canopies. This park’s boat ramp allows you to explore the lake, and watercraft rentals are available on-site.

A great place to hike or bike, and the trails are very well marked. After a workout, dip in the lake right down the road.
