Nestled on the edge of Buseto Palizzolo, a small village 20 km from Trapani, is Ager Costa — one of our most welcoming villas in Sicily. The location is quiet but not overly isolated, with lots of sunshine, countryside views and other village houses nearby. On warm days, cool off in the beach-style private swimming pool, or lounge on one of the sun chairs. An outdoor barbecue is a great way to cook up a casual meal—once it’s ready, enjoy it in the alfresco dining area. A daily tidying service is included, and you’ll find a basket of goodies waiting upon your arrival. Guests are also welcome to pick any seasonal vegetables from the villa’s garden. Inside the villa you’ll notice touches of exposed stone and a pleasant mix of antiques and contemporary pieces throughout, and more importantly, that the furnishings are both tasteful and comfortable. The main kitchen comes fully equipped with plenty of appliances, including an 8-burner gas stove, dishwasher, microwave and two refrigerators. An upstairs kitchenette is convenient for preparing light snacks and refreshments. The villa’s eight bedrooms accommodate up to 16 guests. Each suite features an ensuite bathroom with a private shower and air conditioning, while most offer mini bar and LCD televisions. A junior suite is ideal for young families, as are bedrooms 6 and 7 which share an interconnecting door. Two bedrooms feature French beds (47 inches / 120 cm wide) which is between the sizes of a single and a double bed. There are plenty of charming towns and archeological sites to explore nearby, including the medieval old town center of Erice and the temple of Segesta. Prueba alguno de los manjares locales

Italia es famosa por su cocina (y con razón), pero la isla de Sicilia tiene sus propios platos típicos que merece la pena probar. Muchos podrían considerarse comida callejera, ya que pueden comprarse en mercados o en cafeterías con servicio para llevar y saborearse mientras se pasea por la ciudad. Aunque suelen ser bastante calóricos, ¡las vacaciones están para disfrutarlas! La primera especialidad que no puedes perderte son los «arancini»: bolas de arroz fritas rellenas de ragú, mozzarella y guisantes que suelen comerse de un bocado, aunque las del Antico Caffè Spinnato, deliciosas, tienen el tamaño de una pelota de tenis. Los «fritti misti» (pescado variado frito), la «stigghiola» (intestinos a la brasa) y las «panelle» (masa de garbanzo frita) son otros de los sabrosos platos típicos de la isla. Cuando le llegue el turno al postre, es posible que solo te quede hueco para una refrescante «granita», una bebida similar a un sorbete. De ser el caso, asegúrate de probar en otro momento los famosos dulces sicilianos, entre los que destacan los «cannoli» y la «cassata», una tarta de bizcocho con ricotta y frutas escarchadas.

Sube a la cima del Etna

El Etna, el volcán más grande y activo de Europa, se alza imponente al este de Sicilia. Las franjas de nieve de sus laderas y la columna de humo que de vez en cuando desprende su cráter hacen que, desde lejos, no parezca real, pero lo cierto es que de media entra en erupción unas tres veces al año. No te preocupes: se hace un seguimiento estrecho de la actividad volcánica y las zonas peligrosas se cierran rápidamente cuando hace falta. La mejor manera de llegar a la cima es en teleférico, aunque también es posible subir andando desde su base, situada a 1800 metros. Una vez que corones, dirígete a la sofisticada Taormina, situada a la sombra del Etna. Esta ciudad, situada en la ladera de un monte, es un concurrido destino turístico desde el siglo XVIII. Allí podrás admirar unas vistas panorámicas espectaculares, visitar un fantástico anfiteatro griego del siglo III a.C. o tomar algo en sus excelentes cafeterías y restaurantes.

Adéntrate en el Valle de los Templos

Aunque por toda la isla encontrarás rastros de la civilización griega clásica que una vez habitó la isla, el impresionante Valle dei Templi es una visita obligada para cualquier amante de la historia o la arqueología. El yacimiento contiene la ciudad en ruinas de Akragas, hoy convertida en Agrigento, en la costa suroeste de Sicilia. En el «valle», que en realidad es una cresta ubicada a las afueras de la ciudad, hay siete templos. Entre ellos destaca, sin duda alguna, el Templo de la Concordia, construido en el año 430 a. C. ¡Y no es para menos! Ha permanecido prácticamente intacto más de 2000 años y es uno de los ejemplos más importantes de arquitectura griega clásica que existen.
